GSA: The latest deployment of LTE and 5G networks worldwide
News Guide: As of the end of June 2022, 760 operators in 210 countries or regions around the world have commercialized LTE, 218 operators in 87 countries or regions have announced the launch of 3GPP-compatible 5G services, and at least 20 countries or regions have launched 5G services. 29 operators have launched 5G SA for public networks.
Recently, GSA updated the latest deployment of LTE and 5G networks around the world. According to GSA's NTS database, as of the end of June 2022:
▶LTE
- 977 operators in 244 countries have indicated that they plan or are actively investing in LTE for public networks by evaluating, testing, piloting and purchasing spectrum. The figure does not include operators that use spectrum licenses exclusively for 2G and 3G services.
- 760 operators operate LTE networks, providing mobile and/or fixed wireless access services in more than 210 countries around the world.
- 287 operators in 131 countries or regions are investing in VoLTE, of which 233 operators in 111 countries or regions have launched commercial VoLTE networks.
- 336 operators in 146 countries or regions launched LTE-Advanced networks. Overall, 369 operators in 159 countries are investing in LTE-Advanced technology.
- Over 300 operators deploy or operate TDD-based LTE or 5G networks in the sub-6GHz spectrum.
▶5G
- 496 operators in 150 countries are investing in 5G mobile or 5G fixed wireless access or home broadband networks.
- 218 operators in 87 countries have announced 3GPP-compatible 5G services, including mobile or fixed wireless access.
- Among them, 215 operators have commercialized 5G mobile services, and 92 operators have commercialized 5G fixed wireless access services.
▶5G SA
- 108 operators in 52 countries are investing in 5G SA for public networks in the form of trials, plans, paying for licenses, deploying or operating networks.
- 29 operators in at least 20 countries have launched 5G SA for public networks.
- In addition to this, 22 operators in 10 countries are deploying 5G SA for public networks.
